Although Microsoft doesn't generally comment on rumours, they've made an exception this time. There won't be a new console from them in 2009.

Of course, one can wonder what they mean by "new console". A slim version of the Xbox360 isn't necessarily to be seen as a "new console".

Also, Microsoft will do anything to prevent people from waiting to buy their stuff as they want to continue selling. Who would buy a console if they know a newer version is going to be released in less than a year?
