And1 Streetball (Playstation 2)
And 1 will probably not ring any bells with most of our European readers. And 1 is an American basketball league in which tricks and moves play a more important role than the ability to score points. That's why this And 1 Streetball can be described as a FIFA Street on a basketball court.
Undoubtetly the funniest and most original features of And1 Streetball is the ability to create your own move. This is done in four steps. For instance you can bounce the ball between your legs for a while before making the ball disappear under your shirt and pulling it back again from behind your back. After that you bounce the ball off the top of the opponents head and pivot to smoothly toss the ball over your shoulders and score a perfect threepointer. Ubisoft claimed that the game will support over one million different possibilities.
However, you're not allowed to contantly use this move. Each time you successfully execute a move your power meter will go up. Once your it's full you can astonish the audience with your very own, stylish move. Next to the power meter is the reputation meter. This is without a doubt another very cool feature. People react on your movements. If you keep still for a while, the audience will start booing, but if you pull a nice move from your sleeves, it will go completely berserk.
To keep the game as realistic as possible, the boys and girls over at Ubisoft opted for realistic graphics, furthermore they made a lot of use of motion capturing techniques to be able to integrate all movements as smooth and fluent as possible. Also, they sent out a bunch of triggerhappy photographers, ready to capture every court so Ubisoft can integrate these in the finest detail
Ubisoft wasn't able to grant us much information on the different gameplay modes. What we do managed to pick up was that the game will have a career mode. In this mode you start off as a rookie and have to proof yourself as a And 1 Allstar. Furthermore the game will most likely contain a multiplayer mode in which you can take on a friend.
Unfortunatly the boys and girls over at Ubisoft didn't fall for my natural charm, nor for my thorough questioning techniques which I learnt over at the CIA where our editor in chief sends all crew members for what he calls 'some shock and awe'. So this is about all the information we have about this game.
Definitely worth keeping an eye out for this one.
